Ya-HOOO! Bradin is potty-trained! We have less money for diapers and more time at home, so we decided that it was time. We started the process about two weeks ago, and within one week (5 days, Shelly was 2 days) he was potty-trained. We had a week that there wasn't much going on so that we could stay home, and we went straight to undies. (With my first kids we went through the 'pull-up phase' which I learned was a mistake, it just prolongs potty training). The first day (Tuesday) was fun, we set up fun things in the bathroom: blocks, books, etc. We practiced ABC's, singing, colors. I gave him LOTS of chocolate milk (his favorite) so that he would have to go, and he got a jelly bean every time that he tried to go to the bathroom. The next couple of days were not so fun. He didn't like sitting in there for long stretches (this is my crazy active kid that is in the MIDDLE of everything) and he didn't quite get it yet, and I was getting tired of cleaning up after him. We had a couple of times when he was successful and when he went in the potty he got a package of smarties. He started catching on! Knowing the traits of this child, we bought a potty (on Friday) that can sit in the family room. That way he is still in the MIDDLE of EVERYTHING, and sitting on the potty isn't a negative thing. He really did good after that! (On Saturday, Norm cleaned all the carpets :). On Sunday (a week ago), he wore a diaper to church - just in case - but he went to the potty even though he had a diaper on. He has caught on! As a matter of fact - he is now working the system. He understands that he gets a package of smarties when he goes, and so he will pee a little, get smarties, and need to pee again in an hour and get smarties again. He is capitalizing on the deal - whatever, smarties are cheaper than diapers!!! This last Sunday he went to church with undies on. YAH! We still do diapers/pull-ups at night, but we cut off any liquids a little while before he goes to bed and most mornings he is dry! I admit this may be too much information to share - BUT I AM SOOOOOO EXCITED - we are ALMOST completely, absolutely, forever done with diapers!

SHUT UP!!!!! How exciting is that?! I can't even begin to imagine the excitement that must come from being done with diapers forever. I guess it won't be long before I do a post like this. lol. Good job Bradin! We are sooo proud of you, YOU BIG BOY!!!
Are you SURE you aren't going to miss changing diapers?? Just kidding. Thank goodness Bradin is a smart cookie and "got it" quickly. One step closer to independence. Congratulations to you for being done with diapers.
Luke used to get a Chuck E Cheese token when he went to the potty. Since then when he thinks a trip to CEC is in order he asks where his token is for going potty.
